Bee vs. Moth

Bee vs. Moth is a multiple-genre, weirdo instrumental rock band from Austin, Texas. Our mission is to bravely explore the little-traveled and oft-neglected territory between Ornette Coleman's doom metal band and Mr. Rogers' dude ranch. Along the way, we'll tromp through a few Latin tunes, knock over some perfectly good chords, and spill improvised solos on our nice, clean shirts. Or as our friend put it, "You guys sound like Sonic Youth meets the Tijuana Brass."

Intrigued? Appalled? Come see us soon!

Sarah
Sarah Norris plays drums for Bee vs. Moth, but plays vibes with other Austin groups like Benko, My Education, the New Music Co-op, and the Golden Arm Trio / Golden Hornet Project. Musical highlights include performances with Eugene Chadbourne and Fred Lonberg-Holm. In 2005, Sarah led the New Music Co-op in reconstructing and performing new works on Luigi Russolo’s Futurist instruments, the intonarumori. By day, Sarah is a graduate student in the archival conservation program at UT Austin, and you can sometimes hear her on KUT radio in the wee hours of the morning.

Philip

Philip's long interest in creative music, jazz, and the lower register has been informed over the years by playing trombone, hosting a jazz radio show, and performing in a variety of settings. He has played in rock bands, jazz big bands, country bands, orchestras, and improv groups. Occasionally, Philip performs with the New Music Co-op, and he is the bassist for rock band Parks and Wildlife. Over the last two years, he has happily returned to the upright bass after a long separation. Philip and Sarah are the main composers for Bee vs. Moth.

Ivo

"Man, are you making my kids watch Plan Nine From Outer Space?"

Aaryn
Aaryn first played music as a young lad in his family's band, and perhaps never recovered from the experience. He also plays with Muppletone, The Replacement Killers, and Mostly Dead. Aaryn's hair often seems to have been combed with a pork chop. Some day we'll make him and Ivo both write a bio.
